Helping a buddy figure out an issue with some vibs hes getting on his TJ.

Specs,

2000 TJ 4.0, 4 inch lift, Has transfer Drop, No SYE

Here is the issue it only has the vib well in the gas, Let off and its smooth. Does this at any speed. It not just a vib, Its like the death wobble of the rear end, kind of a jumpin type wobble, Feel like the rear end is wrapin up.

Checked the U joints, They all seem to be tight, The Pinion seems fine, no odd play in it (Check it on Jack stands with it in N)

Now here is what I think it is, Let me know if you guys agree or not. This is an Issue that has started and didn't happin after the lift or anything like that. So it points to a wear issue. So I don't believe its in the drive shaft or pinion it self.

My thinking is its the mounts for the motor and the transfer, I can move the transfer about an inch left or right with little effort. So I am thinkin under load its binding up the drive line causing the vibration or shaking.

What do yall think?

you should not be able to move trans side to side at all. otherwise your gonna have to watch the driveline under power to check for bushing movement. it by chance isnt the person that was trying to id his control arms a while back is it? if so he needs to can those things that prob the problem.

Not sure who the Id control arms was,

But this the one one that went in the water and had the blown fuse givin the check engine.

The transfer has alot of sloppy movement side to side and all around. I will have him put it in gear with the brakes on and see what moves around.

I looked at tonight and the transfer has some slop side to side (Whole case moves with the driveline), maybe a half inch give or take.

I had him put the Jeep in gear and pull forward with the brake on and the pinion rotates quite a bit. He just got adjustable uppers so he putting them on tomorrow and see it that makes a difference. It is possible the UCA bushing are shot there the factory ones still. At least now we will be able to set the pinion angle.

Transmision mount is made of rubber and wears out, get one from like daystar...

Lots of people don't like those. (Me included)
The rubber OE style transmits a LOT less vibes through the mount to my arse.
I get enough shaking from everything else, don't need to add.
That and the OE style is like 25-30 at AZ and in stock usually.
:)
If you can move the tcase at all, that mount is toast. Or at least the bolts are loose.

i changed the rear upper control arms (factory) with some adj ones. it chaged the pinion angle enough where the drive shaft wasnt in a bine. it cured about 95 perecnt of the vibration out of the jeep. i dont know why you wouldnt want to but my jeep about 70 percent of it is brand new!!

Helped him with this,

The uppers were allowing the pinion to roll back and put the drive line at a bad angle. He replaced the uppers, The problem seems to be allot better, I still believe he needs a Transmission mount.
