Anyone running run. Considering swapping over to 5x5.5 pattern and going with the swap. Anyone aware of a company who makes one other than Warn.

With the questions on the hub conversion and the high steer, you are better off getting rid of the dana 30. Those two conversions will set you back the price of upgrading to a dana 44.

I don't want to swap axlesb/c I already have a somewhat decent axle. I've heard countless stories of people busting rubicon front shafts repeatedly and in 2 years, 35k miles and now on 35" tires I just lost the first one. Haven't broken it completely but the cap is falling off on one of the joint ends. And I'm not even sure it was a wheeling related accident as I haven't been wheeling in a month and the TJ has been daily driven the past 2 weeks. I think some of the damage may have been cause by my wreck in July of 05.

you might have heard of the rubicon shafts busting because they use the same outers and u-joints as the dana 30s. i think that the 44 swap that everyone was implying to go with would be a waggy/ford hp swap.

with either of those axles you could get flat top knuckles and do true high steer. you'd be better off doing that if you want to do a hub conversion.

also, if you do do the hub conversion, you'll have to buy expensive spare shafts and if you break both sets, who has a spare set of warn shafts? not me, but i have a spare set of 30 shafts if you need em! just something to think about

If I stay 5x4.5 the outer shaft is still 27 spline but I'm not sure if a stock shaft could be used as a spare or not with the kit. I've got a set of waggy 44's that even though they were freebies by the time I buy gears, locker, ( already have flattops) steering arms, rebuild parts, hubs, new rims, axle mounts, wheel adapters, I'll have just as much if not more.( and those prices are based on good quality non cheapo stuff) Same with my ford front end with the exception of buying new shafts for the rear or adapters.

You would probably spend a little more, but you would have room to grow on the axles. If you upgrade the 30 with the high steer, hub conversion, and chromoly then you are at the extents of its ability to build. The 44's with chromoly and everything else will be able to handle 38's as long as you don't overgear and install a v8. With dumping that much cash into a 30 you are a overbuilding a weak axle.
