TJ pilot bearing damage

i bought a 04 rubicon a few months back that had a chattering when the clutch was depressed and was sometimes hard to shift. I thought no big deal it needs a throwout bearing and with 140k miles on it might as well do the clutch while I'm in there. After finally getting the transmission out I find that the throwout bearing didn't seem too bad but the pilot bearing was destroyed. So instead of just needing a bearing now it looks like a new transmission input shaft too. Anyone know anyone in the Raleigh area who can replace the input shaft in a nv3550 trans? Check out the wear on the input shaft. The PO must have been driving like this for a while.

Also what in the heck were the Chrysler engineers thinking when they put the fasteners together for that thing. I had to use metric and standard sockets and about every size socket from 5/16-19mm and an e12.

That sucks. Input shaft definitely needs to be replaced. Can't help you with who though. I'd do it myself if it were mine, but not for someone else, since I've never done one on that trans.

If you're replacing the input shaft, take a long look at the input shaft bearing, and definitely replace the input seal. Those are often damaged if there is enough clutch chatter for that long of a time, or at least they are on many other transmissions (I assume NV3550 is no different).
