So here is the story on my jeep! I m not the most mechanicly inclined person in the world and I dont have alot of free time! So I purchased my trail rig which is a 97 tj and I am begining to have problems with it now! I believe most of my problem are derived from the 3" body on my jeep! I have my jeep at North Davidson auto right now and they told me I need to replace the complete hub and bearing assembly and my sye is completely shot! They recomended a place that will rebuild my sye and make me a longer and better rear drive shaft!
So I guess my question is would having all that rebuilt be better than buying a HD slip kit?

Buy a SYE. Slip Yoke Eliminator kit. Rubicon Express makes one where you can cut off a portion of the rear tail shaft and then drill and tap it to install the flange, you can also buy the corresponding drive shaft. Other companies make a HD SYE that totally replaces the tail shaft.

I would not want to sink money into rebuilding a stock rear driveshaft, but if you do, there is a place in Winston called olivers. He just rebuilt one for me a couple of weeks ago and was very reasonable price wise.

Huh and Huh and huh some more?

You have a 3" body lift on your jeep correct?
You already have a slip yoke eliminator and CV driveshaft on it?
I cant think of a reason to do an SYE with a 3" body lift, since the BL wouldn't change the driveline angles. It just lifts the body.
Which hub and bearing assembly?
And how can an SYE be shot?

Yes my jeep has a 3" body with a 6" long arm lift and 2" coil pucks.

Yes I already have a sye and cv driveshaft but now they are not in working condition.

well the entire rear drive shaft is loose there is alot of damage on and around the knuckle and the ball inside there all but came out!

You should be able to just buy a replacement yoke depending on whichever SYE kit you had.
But you might want to get it looked at by a shop, (maybe scooting down to Charlotte for Carolina Rock Shop) or if anyone knows a good shop in winston-salem.
Andy down there (zubz on here) is more off road inclined than most mechanics.
And he has a good name on here, so I don't think he'd rip you off.

You might have other hiding problems, (tires to big for axles, etc etc)
11" of lift is crazy.

Big lift aside, the TJ Xj and YJ's all have wheel hub assembly's. they all range in price and are pretty easy to do your self. The rear DS can be rebuilt. The part with the ball is around $50.00 from Napa and then you need 2 u joints for the CV end and another U joint for the othe end. With and SYE there is no slip so it shouldn't have gone bad. Maybe the bearing but not likely. I would say it is only the DS and seams like the SYE. Are these guys an actual offroad shop that deals in lifts and thing like that. If not then I think you are going to get screwed by these guys. Most book mechanics know nothing about big lifts and what goes with them. Just my 2 cents.
