The output shaft on my SYE has oil coming out of it. I wondering if anyone knows the part # or procedures for going about fixing this? Can I find it at AZ or Advance or is it going to be something random that I need from Advance Adapters, origin of the SYE?
It's my assumption that the pinion seal has gone bad...and it's only been in a little over a year. I haven't torn into it yet, this is a preliminary question.

Help me out if you know anything.

Thanks,

Yo,

Is the SYE vented? If not, when the inside gets hot, it builds pressure and will force oil out a shaft seal. Also, the seal inner retainer springs do fail. May simply be your back luck that the seal has failed. If the part is unique, you will likely have to go to the manufacturer to get the seal. Look for a vent and check it for a dirt clog, mud dobbers nest, two worms getting it on or ?

my first bet would be the seal, I replaced one once and the new one just turned out to be a dud, had to go replace that one also.

I'm assuming you have an NP231. Maybe your seal just went bad.

I went through this on my TJ, with hack-n-tap SYE. It used the stock seal, so I could buy the seal from the Jeep dealer, or from a mail order place like Quadratec. It is cheaper from Quadratec. It is nothing special - they had it in stock at the dealership both times I needed it.

Mine blew out because the vent tube was plugged. The rubber hose comes out the top of the T-case, and goes up on the firewall, just to the passenger side of the engine. It was plugged by mud-dobbers when the T-case was out of the vehicle. I cleared out the mud, and then it happened again. The actual vent on top of the tube was clogged, so I replaced it with an axle vent off a Blazer - much simpler design.

It fooled me the first time I fixed it - I drove it around locally with no problem, I had to go out on the highway for like 20 miles before it got hot enough that it blew the fluid out that rear seal since the vent was plugged. When it started to blow out the fluid, it ruined the seal.
