I have a couple of questions on the body of each. I'm looking at starting a buggy project and want to use a TJ body. Findinga body is fairly hars however the YJ is easy to find. My question is -- Whats the differance between the newer YJ & TJ. in other words can I take a YJ body and slightly modify it for the fenders and hood of a TJ? is the Cowl differant on the YJ? are the mounting holes differant on the hood and fenders? If the shape of the cowl and the height of the fenders are close I should be able to make things work just need some advice.

If you can do a "little" bit of work, you can put a TJ front HOOD, fenders and grill on a CJ or YJ tub. Several pics of this around, I am not on my laptop or I would send you a link.

Search for TJ grill YJ on Jeeps unlimited or PBB. With adding the hood/fenders/grill it is pretty "ez", only hard if you want to do parts of that.

TJs are starting to come down in price, might be easier to find one with blown engine etc and start with that? (Or find a built one...)

The whole, buggy with a TJ body doesn't make sense tho...why not a buggy, custom sheet metal (like the rest) with just a TJ hood and grill?

Sorry about the Buggy part I'm going to make a full body but it will be cut off a little past the doors and make a bed for it. Be sort of a scrambler effect but with my own effect.
