I've got a 73 Chevy 1/2 ton truck with a mild 350 and a TH400 transmission that the previous owner told me was a TCI street fighter transmission. The converter in it is pretty loose now (not sure of advertised stall speed, but it flashes to 2800) and not at all suited for a pickup truck. I'm looking to swap it for one that belongs in a truck and has better towing manners. I was looking at the TCI Maximizer converter. Any thoughts on those or recommendations of other torque converters for towing or a truck?
I don't have a 4x4 rig to tow currently, but I may tug my brother's Samurai around from time to time. If I pull a 6x12 enclosed trailer (empty I might add) the truck revs 500 rpm higher than unloaded. I need to get this swapped soon. Any input would be appreciated.
I've got to make this truck work until I can buy a real tow rig once we get my wife's car paid off.
