I've been toying with the idea of getting a Chevy SWB for work and towing a small landscape trailer and equipment to save fuel. My 3500 dump gets about 7 mpg on a good day.
Has anyone had any experience doing this? What kind of mileage did yoou get?
Thanks

95 dakota v6 RCSB 2wd - pulled a 6x12 single axle mower trailer during my HS summers with a 1100# bobcat mower and yard tools - got ~14mpg

I would warn this, though: consider the return on investment for buying the truck, trailer & misc compared to using what you currently have.

Yeah I know...just thinking out loud probably

indeed. it's good to bump ideas off of other people's heads.

For me... it's like when i consider selling my civic. The money from the sale would basically get me ~10mths worth of driving my v8 dakota, definitely not worth it hahaa.

What total miles are you expecting to drive ?

I work within a radius of about 30 miles from my house, all in traffic. The 1 ton is costing me about $125-200 a week in fuel. my 2500 pickup does better but runs like crap so I don't want to shorten its life anymore than I already have. Plus I don't like to work out of the pick up, it's still a nice truck and I don't want to trash it because I still use it to tow the Jeep and run errands in. Of course it needs work too. lol

Have you looked at a v6 tacoma should do what you want it too and still get pretty good mileage.
