My brother and I took a load of scrap steel to the metal recycler this morning just south of Danville. As we were pulling in, I noticed the truck in front of us had a small truck on his trailer with a bunch of junk in the back of it. As we got closer I could see that it was a first gen Toyota 4wd truck - with the axles still attached and complete out to the hubs.
I got out of the truck and went over to talk to the guy. I told him that I sure would like to get the axles out from under the truck he was scrapping. He said they weren't any good, they clunked and made noises. He also added that they were the "older axles". He had no idea that they were worth anything. And I figured out real quick there was no need to push the issue or argue with him.
So, I watched as they unloaded the Toyota from his trailer and put it on the scrap pile. The sad thing is that he only got about $20 at the most for them at scrap value.
