I've asked this on youtatech since they seem to be the 4rinner gurus, but still haven't got an answer.
Are the brakes smaller on a base model 4runner(1997) vs the SR5/limited? The reason I ask is cause I've got a set of 31x10.5 r15 BFGs with about 10k miles on them that I'd like to put on my DD (97 4runner limited) since a set of 31x10.5 r16 bfg's are twice the price of same tire in a 15"wheel size (and I'm not really gonna have a use for the 15'tires once I put off road tires on my trail rig ('85 4runner). So I figured I'd just buy as cheap set of 15" wheels for the DD. I found a set, bought them and they don't fit around the brakes. It looks like the wheel hits the front of the caliper and kind of the outer side, but I don't know if there is a different wheel that will fit or if the brakes are just too big. Got the wheels from Tire Rack. Anyone got any ideas?

the rotors are smaller on trucks spec'd with the 15" wheels ( 225/70r15 fi I remember right ) My '97 SR5 was spec'd this way.

16" wheel option has a larger rotor, large enough they won't fit behind 15" wheels.

The calipers are also different, in only the cast in mounting holes are taller on the 16" wheel calipers to accommodate the lager rotor, caliper piston bore size is the same, master cyl is the same, rear drums are same.

I'd swap you rotors and calipers if ya didn't live so damn far away ! I've already swapped to 16" wheels

There are differences in spring rates front and rear as well between the 15" and 16" equipt Runners, has more to do with options ( auto trans, AC, and a few other minor items )

So you're saying I could just get some calipers and rotors for a 15" spec'd truck? Are the pads the same? The rotors are warped so bad on mine you probably wouldn't want them, so If I'm buying new rotors, it might still be cheaper to buy calipers too for the smaller wheels. The calipers will be a direct bolt on in place of the larger ones?
