Toyota Charging Problems

The alternator would charge intermittently, it would be fine for about a week, then for a day the charge light would come on and off randomly and pushing only 12-13 volts, then be back to normal for about a week. Put new belts on it, did nothing. Put a new alternator on it today, worked for a while fine, pushing 14 volts, then it sat for about an hour, now its only pushing 12-13 volts again and the charge light is on. Ground on the battery is good, belts are tight. I'm out of ideas...

And the truck is a 88 Toyota P/U with 22re. Thanks

if you bought an aftermaket altenator, take it back. Find, or hopfully you have, a factory toyota altenator and put new brushes in it. Unless they get too oil(or P/S fluid) soaked, the only thing ever goes bad in them is the brushes wear out.

Aftermarket ones are about a 50/50 shot to work on a Toyota for some reason..even when they test good back at the parts counter..ask me how I know.

50/50? Wow, that's a lot better than when I did mine. I went through 3 bad ones from 3 different stores before I put a GM 1 wire on mine. Rebuilt ones SUCK.

Yeah, I'll check that out. I'm gonna check and see if maybe the alternator just wiggled itself loose to loosen the belt a little bit? If not I'll find me another Toyota one. Thanks for the input
