Has anyone here converted their Toyota e-locker to cable actuated?
I briefly spoke with someone over the weekend who had converted the front e-locker on their taco to a cable and checked it out as much as I could. It doesn't seem all that difficult to make using the factory locker motor and seems like a viable option to buying a new used motor.
I'm just trying to get some ideas and clues on where to get parts before I get too far into this.

Any info or pictures of your setup is appreciated.

Youre gonna need a high quality cable that has a good seal. It will get full of dirt, mud, and water if you dont. It will sieze up. @DAWGTOY had one on his last truck. It siezed up in the locked position. He never bothered trying to fix it since it was a trail only truck.

I *think* that chillkat on pirate or ttora has made one. I havent really followed it since I dont have any desire to run an elocker.

I've seen the kit that ckillkat sells but the price seems a bit outrageous.

I suppose I could use some kind of rubber boot at the motor end to keep the elements out though.

I talked to @DAWGTOY about his conversion, and decided that was not the route I wanted to go on my truck. If my motor quits working and the chillkat ends up being cheaper than a new motor, then (and only then) I might consider it. Dont fix it if it isnt broken.

Well that's the problem. My current motor is broken.

Do you have wiring in place for the motor, or are you trying to swap this into your truck? If its the latter, it may be worth buying the chillkat kit (or making your own) versus a wiring harness and a motor. For me it would be all be about the cost to get it working, I dont view one method of shifting the motor as superior to the other. When I was doing the swap, I considered selling the motor to make some $$$ back on the 3rd member, and doing a cable conversion. It was not going to be worth it.

The rear was swapped in and working and I have had a 12v guy harness, so I've already got a little money into it. But now the motor has crapped out.

I figured if I could rig up a decent working cable linkage for it that would save about $200 to put towards something else. So why not give it a shot.

If I had an elocker that crapped out, I would make some kind of manual linkage to engage it instead of a cable that you have to route and mount inside. Im thinkin when I get out of my truck to lock the hubs, manually engage the locker at the same time.

If it where that simple I'd do the same, but the wheels have to be spinning at a slightly different rate of speed in order for the locker to engage.

Didnt know that. What about some kind of spring that would engage it when the splines line up? Kinda like on a locking hub.
