what is the up most cheapest and cleanest motor, tran, transfer set up for toyota? i'm in the last stage of my 1st gen build on 1tons an i'm almost broke! i'm looking for a cheap set up, with not alot of wires and head ache. got any ideas?

well if you have tons under it, v8 no need for 4cyl my .02.plus i don't see why you need tons under it, unless you where planing on v8. toy axles with longs are plenty for our 4cyl not trying be smart a$$

wait...how are you in the last stage and don't have any drivetrain? you have a body and axles? sounds like the first stage, and easiest stage. like said before, the cheapest is the stock setup and gear the axles and tcase to turn the tires ok. other than that, a chevy 4.3, 5.0, or 5.7 with whatever trans came behind those motors.

might help to know if you set the truck up with a pass side diff or a driver side diff. makes a big difference when fitting a big motor/trans into a little truck. I am sure you thought off that already though :)

thanks smart ass,hahaha

i have not figured out the details yet first big project on my own. but going all out! seth where you at!!!!!! hahahaha

I have a 85 4-runner with a chevy v8, sm465, 205. If you want cheap, a carb'd chevy v8 is easy to come by. Then go for a factory chevy setup in tranny and tcase. As in my case, that makes for a big headache with cooling, space issues, etc... I would say to look for a factory toyota setup. There are lots of folks pulling them for v-8's and bigger stuff. If you get a carb'd engine, it's easy. Stock toy is the way to go if you want to save $$. Go with it, save your $$, and in 2 years drop in a v-8. Good luck.
