toyota hauler?????

It will pull it. Just have good trailer brakes to help stop it. Had Tundra calipers and rotors on my 99 to keep from warping the thin factory rotors. That said, I didn't know what I know now and probably wouldnt tow like that again. Lol

I pulled some sketchy loads with a tacoma that had the 2.7. Pulling isn't the issue....It's stopping.
Knowing what I know now.....I wouldn't tow with anything elss than a 3/4 ton. It's just down right dangerous.

I have an 04 Tacoma, 4 door, auto, 4x4, 3.4L. It has a hard time towing an open 12x16 utillity trailer loaded with my golf cart. I dont think they were made to be tow vehicles. Just my .02. Best of luck.

I tow this

with this

I Have load equalizers w sway control, air bags leveling suspension, and trailer brakes, and the 4runner is a 4.7 V8

It tows like a champ but brakes are marginal without the trailer brakes. Mountains are very noticeable though. its a 3rd gear pull all the way into boone but on hills like on the way to Uwharrie I can keep up with traffic up and down hills.

Still for longer trips I borrow my dads F250 for just for comfort and security on the road.

Definetly do the Tundra brake upgrade, rotors/pads/calipers are a bolt-on swap, you need absolutely nothing else and it's WELL worth not having to fool with warping rotors.

That being said, I have pulled a 6x12 trailer with 2 ATV's with my wife's 4runner, I was NOT impressed with power or stopping. That was a very short (local) run, with no trailer brakes.

I pull our 3500lb pop up camper with a 3rd gen 4Runner 3.4L 5spd.

it pulls decent, third gear on the hills in truck lane, not my favorite, but it does ok.

will upgrade to a 4th gen in the near future. the 4.0 seems pretty strong in the few i've driven. 4.7 V8 is a possibility.

for heavier loads, ( over 3500 ) go with a real truck.

the 4.0 is a higher HP engine than the 4.7 but the 4.7 beats it in the torque department and has a torque curve more suited to moving a trailer.

I saw that, also found it odd the V8 equipped Runner had a higher tow rating (6300 VS 5000 )

fuel mileage isn't that much different between the 2 either on the highway.

The 4wd V8 4runner are rated to 7000lbs with the weight distributing hitch and trailer brakes. I think my 1st gen and trailer comes in at a touch over 5500lbs but thats just an estimate and I dont have any issue stopping it with no trailer brakes but It is definately reassuring having them.
