Just wondering how much money most people spent to SAS the front of a 2000 tacoma and is it better to run coil springs or leafs. just trying to get some info before I get into it.

It really depends on whether or not you are going to do it yourself or have a shop do it........

pm hardtaco here on the board... we did his at a friend's house/shop in durham... he can tell you all the ins and outs of it... basics of his were waggy 44 front, waggy 7 leaf front springs, ifs yota steering box, hi-steer, custom hangers

I am going to do it myself and I was going to try to use a dana 44 off a full size bronco and try to run coils if it is possible but on a tight budget.

toy front wont work w/ a taco- diff is on the wrong side unless you go with a diamond housing... coils would be possible but more work and not necessarily worth it imo... leaf springs are just so simple- especially if you're doing it yourself

why run a 44 instead of a toy front, for width? , i mean if your not going toyota put a 60 in and don't waste your time on a 44.

It's a lot more work with the differential on the other side. I've always heard this. Take what you think it'll cost to perform a SAS, and double it. That's how much you'll spend.

i've heard of the waggy 44 but it has leafs not coils so that is why I was going for the ford and changing the hubs with chevy's to keep the same lug pattern. I haven't seen anyone using coils so that is why I am so questionable. I can't use a toyota axle b/c of the diff on the passenger side and mine is on the driver's side. Also I don't know what it would cost so I don't know what to double.

My neighbor just used the diamond housing on his 97 tacoma. He had to use spacers to match width and it uses custom shafts. Not sure if it was b/c he had it built to a certain spec or what but he opted for it to stay all toyota instead of using a 44 like I used in my truck. I had around 7K in my swap but that was custom rear springs, dual cases, high angle shafts, rebuilding EVERYTHING inside the housing,5 new rims and tires, ect. I used all new non cheapo parts on mine. There we also some things that were changed 2 of 3 times due to the fact I didn't like the way it turned out or had changed my mind. I had around 200 in my front end to start but it was complete hub to hub and had the springs with it. A little old wise man let me in on something but it may blow your budget all out of proportion. It involves taking an FJ80 housing and flipping it around to put the diff on the correct side and thus results in having coil springs as well.

In my case I had to multiply times 10!!:D

it will cost you anywhere from $2000-7000 to do it. search around on ttora.com if you havnt already been there and you will find everythign you need to know on how to do it...parts lists...etc. im trying to get everything i need by next summer to do the swap then. good luck with it.
