toyota transfer case

So I have a 88 4runner would a 95 truck transfer case ( or at least the gear box) fit my truck or no?

As long as its 4cyl. gear drive then it is the same other than shift rails and speedo connectors. It is all interchangeable though. 79 - 95 4cyl are all the same as far as cases and gears.

what if it's a 6 cylinder? not interchangeable at all?

No, it would be chain drive. Not at all the same.
