I know everyone likes the 5spd behind the 22re but does anyone around here wheel with the auto?

I'm probably picking up a 22RE with an Auto (not sure which one). I was going to gear it 5.29 or so. I might go ahead and do the 5 speed swap but i wouldn't mind keeping the auto tranny either. or just wheelin the auto till it bombs out then doing a swap

Its more expensive and takes more adapters to run a crawl box/doubler behind an auto transmission in a toyota. That is one reason why most people choose to run a manual transmission. The drivetrain is just stronger all around.

i wish my yota was auto when wheelin. i like bankin gears on pavement, but itd wud be alot easier on the trail with an auto. you wouldnt be ridin the clutch so much. but on the other hand, whats the fun if its easy

okay well I made a deposit on a toyota yesterday, I'll pick it up in the next couple weeks. Got a 5 speed transmission. Just need the transfer case but I think I've got one of those now from a local source. So I suppose I'm set. Thanks for the info guys

i have an 88 with an auto (which is currently blown up and in a tranny shop). i dont think you have the same problem with your model autos, but the autos for the 3.0 like mine are sturdy enough. just dont get one if you ever want to mod it or replace anything. its an integrated transfer case which is hydro controlled, its one BIG unit. anyways, the autos are pretty tough, and it really is nice not having to mess with a clutch on the trails.

okay, well i have everything I already need for the 5 speed swap less the t-case.

The pedals and slave is already mounted and all the lines are run through the truck, just have to actually swap transmissions. I may keep it an auto for a bit for daily driving but I will eventually do the 5 speed swap.

Does anyone sell a kit to locate the drivetrain up a little and eliminate the crossmember? I saw a toyota like this yesterday and it looked nice enough to be a kit or something.

i looked at swapping to a five speed when my auto blew up, i have a 50/50 response on whether or not the wiring would work.

I done the swap before, very easy the only thing I remember not working with the wiring was the reverse lights. I'm sure that would be an easy fix though.

see the truck was originally an auto extended cab. now its a manual single cab mounted on the extended cab frame but the auto was put back in. all the OE wiring for the manual is there. only thing is that the auto was rigged up. its already got the pedal and slave and everything mounted

Parts?

Mitsokid, if you'd like to move any of the old auto stuff out of your way, let me know. I'm trying to piece together a manual-to-auto swap. All I have right now is the trans, and the two gear drive cases to go behind it.
