I wanted to know if there is any difference in the toyota VSS from 92 and newer toyota trucks and cars.

I need a vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) for my 97 4Runner 3.4l auto. I have a CEL and ABS light because I swapped axles and now need to pass inspection this month. The 4Runners used the ABS wheel speed sensors for the speedometer and I need a VSS to go into the t-case plus the 3 wire pigtail and some rewiring of the ABS computer to get the CEL to cut off. I found some info about swapping the Tacoma VSS into my T-Case and it is located on the transfer case of a 96-02 Tacoma but I think it is the same on 92 and on toyota cars and trucks that are non ABS. The thing is that I am having problems locating the exact tacoma (3.4l, auto non ABS) that the other guys are using.

Here is the ABS rewiring and speedo/MIL fix from Hunt4Steve

Here is what I need:

Got no info on the parts you need, but if worse comes to worse, you can take the vehicle in and have them inspect it and fail it and you get 60 more days to fix it. (I promise it doesn't hurt your GPA to fail an inspection.)

Unless they changed the law recently in the past couple of months then I don't think you can get an extension on the inspection in NC. I know I can get a waiver after spending $250 or more and 3 trys for inspection. That is also hard to get unless the parts are not able to be found.

As for the VSS I need a sensor from a 96-02 Tacoma with a chain driven case. The other sensors will only work if i swap in a gear driven case.

I found some good links and an easy way to wire it up.

Has it been failed already? If not, they give you the 60 days to get it fixed.
