Trailer brake wiring?

I know there are several threads on this but I didnt see any kind of diagram. I have a trailer with brakes. It has the lights wired into a 4 prong plug. Who ever wired it did not hook the wires for the brakes into the correct plug. And I understand that it is not possible to do so with a 4 prong plug. The wiring for the brakes is there but cut off. My question is.......what wire goes where and I assume I need to buy a new pig tail. And by the way, I already have a "Draw-Tite Activator" brake controller installed in the Suburban with a 6 prong female plug on the hitch. Now that I have typed all of this........I guess the wiring instructions will be in the package of the new 6 prong pigtail.:shaking:

you're 50/50 on having a diagram.

If not solicit a friend and a test light.

On your 6 or 7 wire connector on the truck you can go through and pin out each one.

I *think* and it been a while since I wired up my trailer brakes, that the brakes were either at 12 or 6 o'clock

I said it was a 6 prong connector on the truck but there are 6 around the outside and one in the middle. Is the one in the middle also a wired connection? I figure its prolly a ground.

from what Ive heard/been told there is no standard for wiring on trucks and trailers. Ive seen this personally. Ive tried to hook up to diffent 6 pins to my truck and each trailer I use they have differnet wiring. I would wire my personal truck/trailer the way I wanted it and go from there
