I am wanting to put a winch on my trailer. I have a 16' flatbed that I haul cars on, sometimes they don't run so I am getting tired of using the come-along.

Occasionally I haul a car body off to the scrapyard, so would love to be able to use it to drag a body up onto the trailer.

I can get a 12k Badland winch from Harbor Freight for $325 shipped. Obviously if I had the money I'd get a Warn or something, but I don't so this would be the next best thing.

Plus it isn't like it would be used only if I'm stuck or something. Worst case it doesn't work and I just use my guns to crank the come-along again.

I've got a HF winch on my trailer. 8000lb'er, has pulled a reg cab, long bed, 4x4 F350 with draggy brakes onto my equipment trailer with no dovetail. As well as many other things. Works good, and if it gets stolen in a parking lot while i'm eating supper on the way home from some vehicle salvage escapade, I'm only out the cost of a HF winch on Craigslist.

For a trailer, sure. Like you said, it's probably not going to be a big deal if it quits working.
