I have recentally dropped in a 350 with a 700r4 tranny in my 95 YJ. I can not figure out why the transmission does not go into park. the jeep roles back and forth if its in pthe park position or in gear. I just put in a new rebuilt transmission last night and it still does the same thing. I need help this is driving me nuts and broke.

Did you manually verify the shift lever on the tranny ?
Possibly the t-case is not in gear? maybe linkage issue?

Possible reasons:
(note some may seem obvious, but often over looked)
Drive shafts not in? or only one and depending on which, may not be able to stop rotation(moving)
T case not in gear
Pin that makes park, missing or broken
linkage needs adjusting(take linkage off of tranny and ty it manually)
Using wrong shifter, 700r4 has more shift locations than a T350 or 400

I used to have a 700R4 in my rig. When I would go to park, the truck would role a couple of inches then it would "click" into park. It never bothered me. Much later, I removed the linkage to work on something else and found out the linkage was stopping just short of throwing the lever far enough to get into park proper. Try shifting the tranny by hand with no linkage and see it that helps it set into park. Be careful though, don't get run over!
