This is going to be a multipart question/s. It has been determined that my bud has a TF999 in his '80 cj7. Is this worth keeping and building up or go ahead and get a th350/400 or 700r4? Keep in mind we are building a medium duty 350 bowtie.
As for my ride I am wondering some personal oppinions. My dream is a nv4500. I have never been a big fan of AT's. I like the idea of not having to deal with possible bad clutch linkages and the weight and length of the NV with X-case making for bad drive shaft length. the idea of a properly built 700r4 does sound a little compelling. Sound off and give me your 2 cents. Hell, give a $1.50 if ya want. :)

Rock rig? rocky trail rig? mud bunny?

I love my 4l60e(newer electronic ver of th 700r4). It has a good first gear and the over drive is nice to have.

Not a daily driver but all around. Lookin to be middle of the road at it all. To be honest I dont see anthing in the extreme range in this rides future. We're thinking along the lines of camel trophy trucks.

I think I would go with a T350. You can get a chevy 205(bulet proof) to mate to it. T350 can be rebuilt cheap. Downside is the Low range in the 205. But, you can get a lower 1st and 2nd gear for the T350.
Just my .02
