Anybody know anything about transmissions? I have a th350 that does not want to stay in park. I was thinking it was the linkage at first, but the linkage is off now, the pan is off and it still does it. I don't see anything broken (springs, levers, etc.) but it sounds like a clicking noise when it slips. Every other gear works fine as far as I know.

Sounds to me like the parking pawl is broken. Not sure where it is on that trans, but you will probably have to take off the valve body to get to it.

That scares me beyond belief.

Yo,
Either the park pawl, the trans gear it locks into or the spring that holds
the pawl in place. All are bad news. I believe the pawl and spring can be
replaced with transmission in truck.

Dig deep, it ain't gonna be cheap.

Depends on definiton of cheap, I suppose.
But fi he is inclined and capable of fixing himself, he should be able to get out for~$100.

And before I spent $$ for a new pawl and spring retainer. Look under the porch (everyone has a th350 under their porch, right? No? just me? Damn) or wherever a th350 is laying, they all use the same pawl IIRC 2wd,4wd, car, truck, or van

It actually isn't that hard to replace. You just have to torque the bolts back on the valve body. Also be carefull when you pull the valve body off not to lose the little ball bearings in there. Also remember where they go. It looks worse than it really is. Just take it slow and be carefull. Also you'll need a new valve body gasket. Get from carquest or dealer. Make sure it's the same one before you scrape the old one off.

I may just wait on it and get a trans place to do it. All the ball bearings and the valve body.....there's so much that I could screw up. Then again this is my spare so who knows. Thanks for the help.
