Transfer Case Issues

Recently purchased an 87 Suzuki Samurai hard top. Went to shift from 2Hi to 4Lo. It wouldn't go into 4Lo, and wouldn't go back to 2Hi. Had to pull the 4wd shifter out of the top and re-align two rods (well, they looked like rods) just to get the shifter to engage 2wd again (a friend was kind enough to walk me through this over the phone).

If it sounds like I don't know much about the transfer case, it's 'cause I don't.

Anybody have any idea why that happened? And more importantly, can anyone suggest a reputable tech in the triad area that can look at this?

Thanks,
jimbo

because it is a Zook and they suck. :flipoff2:

Wow, man....thanks for the response, Seth. Next beer is on me.

Does that go under the circular retainer-type piece that came out of the top of the transfer case?

Thanks again,
-jimbo

P.S. jeeper...it does not suck.
Well, not much. :)

yea...the last on i worked on...the shifter kept falling below the pivot point....which cause it not to be able to shift. The new ring keeps the shifter where it is supposed to be. If that doesnt fix it...it could be internal. But i bet that will fix your problem....

Now you just need to order a set of lowrange gears to put in that case.

Good luck..

Seth
