Transfering to App?

So I'm an elementary major at Lenoir-Rhyne in Hickory and thinking of transfering. I work fulltime and take 12 hour coarse loads each semester. LR has a longlife learning program that offers a discount rate of $350/credit hour. This works out to $4200 a semster. I signed up for 13 this past semseter as my advisor told me the program would allow for 13. It DID NOT! they bumped my tuition up to fulltime day student at $9000/semster. Now I have an outstanding balance of $4000! After playing with the numbers they got it down to $2100, but can't do any more.

If I stay for my senoir year next year my internship and and student teaching, which are both over 12 hours, I'll have another $9000 that my current loans will not pay for plus the $2100 I already owe. Teaching is going to be a sacrificial job as it is! I don't want to go into it broke too!

So I'm thinking of transferering to App. State. I have a assoc. degree in engineering and work in a machine shop for my 12th year now programing CNC machines. It pays well, but want to change careers.

Any suggestions?

psh Lenior Rhyne is over priced.

App has the one of the best teaching programs in NC, if not in the south.

Of course, Im slightly biased, but still, DO IT!

Have you looked carefully at the curriculum requirements of App's Elem Ed program?
It' spretty structured, and many required classes must be done in a specific order wit hsome only offered certain semesters, etc. You might want to do some digging on how much of your current classwork will transer, and what exactly you will need to take in order for them to give you enough credit for graduation from their program.
I don't remember exactly what the rules were at App, but most schools require a min # of hours to be done at theri school in order for you to recieve a degree from them.
the point is, you might (hiopefully not) end up in a situation that will add alot of needless time to your schooling.

Oh, and FWIW, thanks for doing this "sacrifical job". Very under appreciated...

yes, I live on my own. At 29 I can't imagine doing anything else.

I know that L-R requires so many classes taken on campus in order to grad. from there. I didn't think about a state school doing the same, but I guess they could very well require the same. Something I need to look into.

Thanks for the suggestions!
