Ok I don't understand what happend and what is wrong. I have a th350 mounted to a np203 xfer case. I pulled front drive shaft yesterday to replace u=joint. I found that on the xfer case my front output shaft or what ever you call it was not tight. I fixed that then had to move truck with out front drive shaft. well now this thing shifts very hard into reverse. once I put in drive or 2nd and hit the gas in wants to move but on pull like 2=5 inches and rolls back like somthing is slipping. No noises though. I put it in 1st gear and it feels as if I slam it in, but 1st gear works like it should. the next thing is once I cut the truck off and then try to start again the starter is now turning like the gear is stuck or somthing. so the starter spins but does nothing to turn the engine over and it is brand new also. Thanks guys and any help or sugestions will be apprciatied.:bounce2: :bounce:

Ps: It is full of transmission fluied

was all well until you "tightened" the front output shaft?

Is the 203 still fulltime ? If it is moving it with the front drive shaft out is a no no. Try putting the case in high or low lock and see what happens.

Ok today got the driveshaft back in. replaced starter. truck cranks back up now. still no luck on starting in 2nd or drive. I dicieded to try somthing out and and it worked. when starting in frist then build some momentum shift to 2nd stilled pulled like normal then shifted to 3rd still works fine. but if you stop in 2 or 3rd it will not pull from stand still points. Then the tranny seemed like it was sliping. What do you guys think. I am thinking rebuild cause clucthes are gone or a pump or somthing???

also tired locking the hubs in and out and shifting from high range to low range still did the same thing. To the best of my knowledge the 203 is still full time 4 wheel drive. thanks

I run a th350 With a similar setup. The vacunm hose on mine has no real effect on starting off. Mine will do the same thing from time to time. What I do to correct it is to add more fluid. How did you tighten your front out put shaft. It should be held in by a snap ring which is held in by an aluminum cover plate?

there was a big bolt I tightened.I never disasemble anything. got out there today and discoverd that vacum hose you guys were talking about and it was off, couldn't tell you for how long. I added more fluid just to make sure and it still didn't help it. Buy any chance could anyone tell me why I would have 1st gear but not 2nd or 3rd, I was thinging if the clucths are shot then it shouldn't pull at all??? Just a thought.

I think your tightening has served to bind the gear cone and not allow shifting.

Im not sure what you tightened?

To remove slop from a front output shaft, (BTW this woul be on tcase not tranny) would require disassembly.

If you could take some pics and show us what you tightened.

I can not imagine how you removed slop from the output yoke without tearing the case apart

I will take pics tommrow if I can, on my xfer the front output shaft is a flat round adaptor that mates to the front drive shaft. It connects the driveshaft to the xfer cans it has a huge nut that sits in the middle like on a pioin shaft on a axle. It had a 1/4 in to 3/8 in play the nut was loose. I tighted it up to little to no play.
