My 99 K2500 Suburban has 250 miles on it. Totally stock (boring I know, but it is a work truck. )Today I pulled a trailer up a steep hill in 4lo, and when I got to the topi had no reverse. I unhooked the trailer, and drove down to level ground. When I tried to take it out of 4lo, I realized I had no neutral, the truck tried to go forward. Then I realized it tries to go forward in reverse as well. So I have park, and 6 forward positions, and I'm stuck in 4lo. When I checked the fluid a couple of days ago it was red. Now it is black.

I took a known good neutral switch off a parts truck, and no change.

Any one know what happened?

It is a GM thing they will work good and do that. You need a new transmission. You won't be able fix that trans without a total rebuild.

My old truck did the same out of nowhere. Was told that the clutches welded themselves together. Put a Jasper trans back in it and it’s still going strong 8 years later with the new owner.
