My dad used to work at a plumbing supply house and said a guy once picked up a load of pipe with a station wagon to do a big job. They bundled the pipe together, he parked his wagon over the center of the bundle and proceeded to strap the front end to the hood and the back to the rear wheel wells or hatch and maybe one in the middle for support. Several people cautioned him, but the guy wouldn't listen so they tied a flag to the tail end, made him sign a waiver and wished him good luck. I've seen it done this way twice myself and I'm always too mystified to take a picture!
On the flip-side (pun intended), before I was born my granddad brought home a 100' fiberglass flagpole strapped to the to the top of a single cab 80s Nissan Pickup. He said that thing flopped around so bad it was bouncing the suspension in the truck!
