I've got a buddy wanting me to build a climbing tree stand, and I was wondering what you guys have already come up with. I've seen some plans online, but most of them leave something to be desired, especially in the capacity department. He and I are both kinda big guys,, and I'd like something rated for better than 250lbs, just for my peace of mind. I'm sure those are conservative ratings, but you can't be too careful.

I have thought about making them. I dont weld aluminum and that would be the ideal thing to build it out of. Im a Gunslinger(brand) user for 10yrs now. I bought the first one sold at the Deer Classic and as long as they are $300.00 I wont consider building one.
Also I dont have an industrial sewing machine for the fabric seat material that I like.
Good luck on the plans and post pics. If its cool and comfortable enuff for about 5 hours. I might buy one.

For a climber its hard to beat a summit...
Honestly years ago we made some climbers (port-a-climb style) and some ladder stands.

With the way prices are today I dont se how you can make one for twice what they cost to buy.

just my .02

used to have a climbing stand called a big man it was rated for 350 only paid 175 for it I wouldnt waste my time trying to build one if you can still buy one for $200 or so. I have used feather lights for years much like a summit with the cables and sling seat I used to buy them at the buckmaster shows.

The only problem with Summit is I cant sit much over 2 hours because the seat straps cut into me. I always used a Warren and Sweat yrs ago with a peice of wood seat and a pillow. Tried the Tree Lounger and its just to damn scary.
The gunslinger is built on Warren and Sweat frame with a tree lounger style seat facing the tree. This is fine for because I dont bow hunt. Mainly use my CVA year round now that I can kill deer at 250 yrds black powder hunting. It also comes with a true gun rack and is adjustable for reclining. The Big Shot is a good one also if you can afford it.

Hers's a few of my favs....:fuck-you:
