Hey all

Looking into getting out of renting and into home ownership. Right now I work in Lexington/Welcome, Wife just got a job in Thomasville, and we live in Winston near the Mall.

My drive is about 22 miles, her's would be about the same at 25 miles, but it's travleing NC109, so 35mph-55mph back and forth. niether that bad really, 20-30 minutes.

Area's we've looked at for living are K-vegas, Archdale, Trinity, Oakridge,Summerfield. Oakridge and Summerfield being our favorite areas, but also the furthers to drive for her. I'm not worried about driving, don't bother me none.

Wanted to get info and opinions of any of those areas and surrounding areas.

Considerations:

2 girls one in Elem. the other starting soon
something Rural prefered.
Somethign to stay in for 2-5 years. probably turn it around sometime after 2 years for something a little better/nicer... depending on what we find. so growing market area would be a bonus.

We found a GREAT place in Summerfield, nice house on about an acre lot. Utility shed and the kicker for me a Cinder block 3 BAY SHOP out back to boot!!!!! Somewhere I could fianlly work on the CJ and set-up Shop for Crazy8!!! and it's priced pretty good for us.

Anyway, long winded I know. What are some other areas around to consider. Schools being a MAJOR factor. Not too impressed with so many of the schools around Winston.

So - what's the downside to this magical place in Summerfield? Sounds like a winner to me.

I live in Lewisvilel and LOVE it here, reccomend for any "young" family, but clearly that's way to far out for you.

Oak Ridge is nice if you can find a place that isn't ridiculously overpriced. They have very good schools and parks there so its a good area to raise kids. If you want to live in a real town move to Pfafftown. :bounce:

If I was sticking to the W-S district, I would look at Lewisville, Clemmons, Pfafftown areas.

Nothing wrong with the Summerfield location, except as Dave pointed the 1hr + daily commute. Granted I don't plan on staying at this job much longer, but it's still Hwy 68 thru Highpoint to T'ville for the wifey. Granted she liked this place in Summerfield enough that she might over look the commute. And unfortunately we wouldn't be able to carpool due to hours worked and getting kids from After School/Day Care programs. She'll be dropping, I'll be picking up. no two ways about it.

But ya, other than commute, that place in Summerfield is IDEAL!

Anyone know about Trinity/Archdale, N.Davidson???

Depending on how long "I don't plan on staying at this job much longer" is and how long you anticipate girlfriend staying with the new job... is it wise to do more than look at purchasing? IOW, it would suck greatly to buy a home, move, and *then* find out that the next employment is in the opposite direction... an hour back to W-S! :shaking:

Of course, there's always staying put in W-S and buying a DD that gets 37mpg instead of 15... :flipoff2:

OTOH, if you both can make an effort to sit tight (job wise) for a couple of years... IMO, the perfect area would be just south of T'ville (109 & 64) near DPG! It's in Randolph County where the taxes are (used to be) much lower. It'd be a short blast for her, 20 minutes for you (64 to 52), W-S is 30 minutes, GSO is 25 minutes, and OH MY... URE is 20 minutes. You could then mooch JBs garage to sit in the CJ and make "vroom-vrroooom" noises in!

LMAO!! x2.. look out Dave's on a roll!!!1

and a :fuck-you:

Kinda why I was asking about Archdale/Trinity. Kinda in teh middle of all of it. WS, G-boro T'ville.... Good home prices, decent schools from what I've seen and heard. I'm thinking we'll be around the Triad area for a time, but yes, getting stuck in a mortgage about the time a relocation would occur presents the big suckage! So it's still investigation time. ;)

Northern Davidson County....whole lot less taxes and you drive thru it every day on your way to work now? No idea what the schools are like but to be honest it is all a crap shoot anyway. You can be in a crappy school with a great teacher or vice versa...

I would stay in Davidson county or Randolph county and you will be close to both of your current work and yet able to get to any of the big 3 local cities quickly.

Oak Ridge and Summerfield are $$$$$ anymore...and Kville is too, I know I would love to buy a nice acre or 3 but the prices are thru the roof.

So start looking off 109 dude..there is some nice houses in that area you drive thru every day and you know how long it will take to get back to the mall area to eat out as needed, etc. (Chances are that wont be every night vs the everyday commute u have now)

Sam, ya N.Davidson along 109 is a consideration. and Yes Oak Ridge and Summerfield are Big $$'s Oakridge is a litttle late for us to be jumping into as it's prices have Sky Rocketed. But Summerfield is still feasible $ wise. Talking toa buddy who is a Contractor Supplier and lives in Oakridge he agrees it's tough to find anything under $200K and it's still on the rise. Following the trends of construction Summerfield is going to explode next, which of course mean buy now, sell in a few years and take it to the bank! :D that's a big consideration in this too! ;)

Northern davidson county would be a good place. What size house are you looking for? Most of the elementry schools in the northern part of the county are good. I grew up here and just moved back when we finished building our new house.

Gotta go with Wallburg, Midway,Welcome area. NE davidson county so costs should be lower for equal housing in forsyth. Schools are great in that part of the county. Close to your work areas. Oh, and Wallburg is VERY centraly located to 109, I40, and 311. Near dead center between High Point and Winston, being 15 min from downtown of either. Don't fprget it was just incorporated a couple years back so no fear of Big City taxes due to a forced annexation.

I live in the outlying Oak Ridge area. 68 and the feeder roads to the East like Pleasant Ridge, which come from Summerfield, are a disaster during rush hour. I only use 68 well outside of rush hour, and on weekends. Fortunately I live on the West side of 68 and can travel the backroads to work. I would recommend leaving your house early one morning and driving out to the Summerfield area and then leave there at the time you would need to leave to make it to work. It will take you considerably longer than on a Sunday afternoon.

that's the truth. I'm always amazed how quickly I can get to I40 on a Saturday morning :driver: !
I used to live in Summerfield postal area (annexed by Greensboro) off Pleasant Ridge Rd, and if it only took 20 minutes drive 8 miles to work, that was making good time.

K-Vegas is a nice area....but growing too fast and too big.
Wallburg was my thought, even if it looks like it's becoming the soccermom capital of NC. ( Went thru there on my way to URE...lotsa suv driving wimminfolks).
I would definately get out of Forsyth Co. Sorry, I love youse guys and all, but the taxes are a killer.

I bought in K'ville earlier this year. I love it. The schools are decent, I pay Winston taxes, but I bought a 1680sq ft house, 4 bed 2 1/2 bath with a 2 car garage for under 135,000 all built to my liking. Granted I don't have a shop out back, but it is quiet, and very nice area.

Just make sure you look at the OUTTER BELT LINES that are being built, they are both going through some nice areas and will depreciate some property values and raise some others. The Greensboro loop is going out to oakridge and summerfield area which should help drive times and get some people off 68
