attempting to change out the fuel pump on my 93 Cherokee, removed old one, compared it to new one, they look identical but I cannot for the life of me get the new to seat in the tank, the flange looks the same and all. I even removed the little rubber gasket to see if that was the issue but it still won’t seat even with that out of the way, what am I doing wrong here?

Got any pics, pics of them side by side?

Did you drop the tank? If not it's a pain to get the pipe to sit in the grommet at the bottom of the sump....
Ahhhh that’s probably what’s happening....the old one doesn’t have a grommet on it but the new had a cone shaped one, do I need to remove that first? And no I didn’t drop the tank, was trying not to

Third pic is the grommet I mentioned, does that need to be removed?

Is the grommet from the old one still at the bottom of the sump? Stacking two grommets isn't going to work, which I'm sure is pretty obvious at the moment.

That’s possible, the old pump has the knurl on it where as the new one doesn’t when I took the grommet off, I still can’t get it to cooperate though so I guess I’m just gonna have to drop the tank, Hell as long as I’ve fought with tank in the Jeep, I could have been done by now

I guess I got spoiled when I had to change the fuel pump in a 94 corvette, so easy, just remove fuel door and 30 minutes later you’ve got the old one out and new one in. Was hoping the Jeep would be somewhat just as easy but I shoulda known better, thanks for the input guys, rain killed me today and work tomorrow so hope to get back at it Monday
