Anyone go? I usually don't but I was in Hickory for Easter so we decided to go...

We went to the South Toe and it was packed! I think I saw at least 50 different fishermen in a 2 mile stretch from 7am to 12am.

I saw a few good fish caught. But, out of all of those folks, I saw maybe 5 fish total on stringers. I had 2 bites. I lost the rooster tail I was getting my bites on, at the first hole. From that point on, not 1 bite the rest of the day on anything I tried. Nothing!

Brother in law caught 4 with a combination of corn and nightcrawlers. Father caught 1 on corn, and father in law caught 1 on the same rooster tail I lost.

So, what was everyone using? Seems like the biting was a little slow for everyone Saturday...

My father and brother in law caught their fish further downstream than where I and my father in law went (we went upstream, they went downstream). They said they saw maybe 4 people all morning. I wonder if the fish upstream were a little spooked with all the people in the water...

I haven't been on opening day in a long time. I got tired of having to bring my own rock to stand on 'cause it's so crowded.

I haven't been on opening day since I was a kid. I didn't realize it was going to be so packed!

However, it was comical watching all of the guys trying to fish around each other and falling in the water (including my father in law)

On that note, let me throw out a warning.

First, I've laughed and been laughed at for the slipping around while wading. It is rather comical, but watch it. about 2 weeks ago, I lost a long time fishing buddy when he slipped and fell upside down in his belly boat while trout fishing down in Georgia. He couldn't get up righted and his fishing partner couldn't get to him fast enough.

Like I said, I don't know how many times we've laughed at each other when one of of slips and slides. but it can go WAY WRONG TOO FAST! Waders can fill up with water in a hurry as well.

Have fun, laugh often, but be safe!

Oh yeah, no doubt. But, this was the South Toe River, to rescue yourself, just stand up :)

I've flipped my canoe over in fast moving water (15' feet deep) duck hunting and have had some issues staying afloat. When we get in that situation (fast/deep water with waders on) we always have our life jackets on.

Missed it. Went to Cherry grove area and scouted for some places to kayak for reds. gonna go up early next week and hit a few.

Felt bottoms FTW!!!!

Never go opening weekend, but I do have an annual week trip planned in may to Graham county...anyone interested in joining?
