anyone know a shop or company in the Raleigh area that bends rectangle 2x4 steel? Looking to make a couple frame rails, so it would be bending the tube "the hard way".

any help would be appreciated.

bending

I may have to do it that way if nothing else works out. I have considered it (give me a good reason to add a torch to my arsenal, LOL).

I want it to be strong cause it will be my sons daily driver when its completed. I figured bent, uncut frame rails would be stronger and safer for highway use.

Anyone done it the way mentioned above? Strong enough? Anyone have pics?

Anyone else with suggestions?

Thanks to all.

You could also cut it completely in two, angle both sides to get the correct angle, weld back together and then plate it. If it is a clean job, and you have good welds and proper plating, it will hold for sure. This would save you from needing a torch, unless you don't have anything to cut the tube with.

I would look for a structural steel fabricator, probably in Charlotte. They would likely be able to form large size steel used in one-off construction projects. There are a number of fab/supply places right off I-85 near the intersection of I-77.

If you do cut and weld, know what you are doing. Poor weld penetration or hydrogen embrittlement will get you at the worst possible time.

My $0.02

tubing

those w/ experience........... go with 1/8" or 3/16" rectangle tubing?

This rig was done with 2x4x.120, and he beats on it mercilessly. He did say he re-did the front bumper because the winch bent the .120
