Hi. My husband and I need to supply a second building on our property from a well that's already supplying our house. We would love feedback from you on how you got yours hooked up.
My husband is not a plumber but is a carpenter and handy man. His main question is if the second building also needs a holding tank. But all feedback is welcome!
This is my first time on this forum so I'm not sure if I'm doing it right.
At any rate, thanks for any help you or anyone else on this forum can give us.
Best,

couple of questions for yall.

how deep is your well?

what kind of pump do you have?

how big is your res tank for your well?

my parents have a mobile home park and they supply 13 houses off of one well. let me know what you have and maybe we can get you hooked up.

If you can't find the answers you need here, the Terry Love forums are a great plumbing resource:

I'd say you only need one pressure tank, but adding a second one (or a larger one) may help reduce pump cycling. You may also need a backflow preventer on the second building to satisfy building code. If the run between buildings is more than 50ft or so, I'd use as big of a pipe as I could justify paying for... something in the 1-1/4" range. A long run in a small pipe could cause pressure/flow problems.

depending on lay out etc....you could mount a "T" at the top of the well...and run separate tanks, pressure valves etc.
Thats what I do with my shop, the elec side is a little tricky if you are not totally familiar with it...but easy enough.

Do you know how many gallons an hour your well can support?

I'm a plumber but some other people on here might know more then i do. Just ask me any ?'s you got. I work for Pendergrass and Holder plumbing and if i can't answer it i know people who can for sure..

Best of luck

Well is 250 to 300 feet deep.
Not sure about the pump.
I think maybe 50 gal? The pressure tank holds enough to keep the whole house running fine.
Wow about running 13 houses off one well!
My husband can tell me these details so I'll answer again once I find out. Thanks for your help!

Thanks so much!
I think it's 12 gallons per minute. When the well was installed, the installer said we could run a small subdivision off this well.
I'll check with my husband to get the facts straight, though.
We're trying to find a diagram or information that shows the plumbing for one well to two houses. Any ideas?
Thanks again.

Your local health department would have the specs that are required. And you can make an anonomous call to ask. Once the H-D is involved with who you are and what you are doing, you'd have hoops to jump. Permits / inspections / fees and such. If just adding on, I'd just slide it in. At 12 gallons per minute, you're set.
I live in one of the poorest water table counties (Durham) and the requirement is 1 gallon per minute and 150 feet storage. But when I moved here, there were 3 houses ran off the same well that is half as deep as mine for many years with no problems? Average bath is 40 gallons so I guess they had to take their baths 45 minutes apart?:flipoff2:
I think I could piss faster than my 1 gallon per minute? I guess it's a good thing I don't have a herom of wives or I'd never get to take a bath...:shaking:

When I moved here, My neighbor and I went in together on a well. It is on my land, but they paid me some for eclectic every month. I am 246 deep, 50 gallons a hour. My neighbor is probably 400' away. We never had an issue. The neighbor man died, the wife sold the place and the new finance bank made them dig another well. half as deep as mine.
I have watered garden, yard and what ever I wanted to do with no issue. Our two homes were connected by a simple "T" going to her house.
