U-joint ??

I really should probly know the answer to this already but i don't so i'll ask.

On my rear driveshaft there is more play then i think is normal, how do i know when my ujoint is on its way out, its obviously still working but i'm not trusting it...

Jack up the rear wheels, put it in neutral, turn the drive shaft back and forth by hand and watch the u-joint. There should be NO loose play AT ALL in the joint. If there is no play it could still be going bad. They don't cost much, just replace it and you'll know it's good.

What do you mean by "play", The driveshaft will turn a little back and forth. But like JC said it shouldn't have any side to side slop or play.

Doudle check the pinion nut also while your underneath there. I have seen loose ones before and that will let the yoke move around and destroy joints.

when my nut was loose it would sling gear oil out everywhere, but thats on a k5 so idk how much of a differance that is
