Uder hood light on ZJ... where's the switch?

This seems pretty insignificant, but I finished putting a radiator, water pump, and thermostat in my '93 ZJ. When I was done I plugged the under hood light back in (didn't want it draining the battery) and closed the hood only to notice it was still on.

I felt like a kid trying to figure out if the light goes out in the fridge as I slowly closed the hood while peeking under it.

How does it know when to turn off, because mine doesn't? I pulled the bulb until I fix it. Thanks.

This is going to sound asinine, but did you follow the wire?

Long shot, don't know much about newer jeeps, but is it a mercury switch?

Thanks, this makes perfect sense because I thought the light hung too low and I tried bending it up and I broke the mount. I had traced the wires and they didn't lead to a switch. Mercury switch didn't even cross my mind since mostly that's a no-no now days.
