How do these things work? My factory has 5 wires this universal has 4. The color reference table shows type A thru D how do I know what type I have and what do I do with the 5th wire?

This is on a passat and I don't have a clue

I don't know about your current situation, exactly. I do know from my experience with water-cooled VWs that they don't care for universal O2 sensors. Sometimes you can get away with it, but you may want to go with a factory style anyway.

The universal you got is a standard heated o2. The one in your car is a factory wide band. They are not compatable with one another. I can tell you from way too much vw experience that you are better off going to the stealer and buying a factory O2. The aftermarked O2's will not usually work in those cars.

If the oe one is 150, you are getting off easy. The one for my jetta was 520. The 150 will save time and money in the long run.

I actually work at autozone. If your car is newer than 96 I would say go to the dealer. I hate to send money away from where I work, but buying parts that dont fix problem sucks.

Yep, its' the dealership for you. German cars hate aftermarket parts.
