Earlier I was asking about cameras.
Re-cap: Christmas Eve 2 cars in my driveway were broken into while we were opening presents.
(many other cars were hit that night and previous nights.
Without giving away details, we went out of our way to help the sheriffs detective.
We located some stuff.
We got some IP info.
The sheriffs dept. followed protocols and got an address.
End result ... they got the guy and several others who were all working together breaking into cars and outbuildings.
My daughter got her (empty) wallet tablet and laptop back.
BTW-REGISTER devices AND operating systems if possible (hint).
So much stuff was recovered it took 2 weeks to catalog it all.
90% of the charges are felonies and a lot of added on drug charges.

Kudos to the Stokes Co. Sheriffs Dept.!

I'd love some details for how we could all help in those case if you don't mind sharing in the garage

I guess it's really no big deal.
So I'll share here.
With Windows and such operating systems, Microsoft and the other software companies can tell when and where your device and their software on it was last used.
My daughter didn't even know anything was missing for 24 hours until Amazon sent her an acknowledgement of an app down load on her android. ( that's important )
When she called to dispute it because she has iphone, Amazon said it was her Kindle Fire tablet. She went to get it from her Jeep ( damn thing causing trouble already!)
and realized everything was gone. Amazon blocked and locked the tablet. REGISTER!!!!!!!!!!!
Two days later same idiot tried to access Netflix on the Fire tablet and tried to reset the password.
Netflix sent a security email about the password re-set attempt. We stopped that, contacted Netflix and got an IP address and called the detective.
If y'all will remember I was asking about tying IP addresses to physical addresses. We took the info we had and went looking.
When asked what I was would have done. I would have put a gun in that MF-ers face and dialed 911.
I don't like being a victim!
Turns out, the info we had was a local service node in WS.
The detective went through channels and protocol with Netflix and got an actual address.

Yeah. she still lost cash and some other stuff ... still out a few hundred bucks.
We told her not to leave stuff in her car.
We don't leave stuff in the cars here and don't lock ..... don't want a busted window, but the last time this was a problem in our area was 15+ years ago.

But at least We done our part to put the scumbags in jail!

Good work. Seems like something every one could do if they put in a little effort.

Good job. Doing your own police work often pays off better than the popo! That's not intended to be a finger in the eye either. They are swamped continually and without the right influence this stuff sinks to the bottom of the pile. A very good friend of mine is in the Blue Line. Been involved since college. Every year he says the paper work and criminal rights crap just gets deeper and deeper. He vouches for anyone to be pro active within reason...….and a for a few repeat trash he wished someone would just handle some justice.
We had a neighbor thief do time. Get released and do it all over again while being protected by blind eyed daddy. This time they both got locked up. Me and some others swore if we could help it they'd go back in crippled.
He's given Narcan to more people he can remember, most more than once. Some drug going around left residue on some bills. That residue nearly killed a bank cashier...….his stories and my personal opinion has truly changed how I view criminal rights for the: caught dead in the act, worthless, criminal type. Times ago I could understand folks stealing to survive. We got plenty of governmental crutches available this day and age. A thief isn't even bottom feeder category in my book.
