What are some campground other than NFS sites near Uwharrie? We couldn't get a site at Badin Lake, and if I remember correctly, Hunt Camp is first-come, first serve, and I'd rather have some solid reservations before we drive 4 hours up there. I've called Outpost a couple times, but I can't get an answer there. Any help?

Those are all booked. The USFS reservation system was down until yesterday, and by the time I got to a computer to try and make reservations, the few remaining spots had already been booked.

rough it, primative camp on the trails. There's some good spots where RML crosses the road to the double parking lot, then down by Falls Dam.

I hate having a negative response for everything everyone's said so far, but my buddy's got a tow rig and trailer, otherwise we would. We don't really want to leave it anywhere overnight. At this point we're looking at Fayettenam or closer. Any suggestions?

There is another camp ground further down the road called Morris Mountain or some such, toward Mullinex Store and Troy.

I dunno if it is rez only or first come first serve, been a few years since I've camped there, but I never saw it packed up, and I know they recently (laqst couple of years) put in a shower house and I think better toilet facilities.

You're gonna have a hard time booking something in Uwharrie this weekend. It's Zuwharrie and there's going to be hundereds of us descending on the forest. They reserve all of Group Camp, and I think I got one of the last spots in Arrowhead. Sorry about that. You could go into Group Camp, register for the event, try and find a spot, and hang out with a bunch of Zookers all weekend, but that's a stretch. We're good folks, honest! And with your registration, you get a free meal and a chance to win something in the raffle!

What's the story with Yate's Place and West Morris Mountain? Are those still open for the season (and available, if you know)?

It looks like we're gonna end up driving around until we find somewhere. I'd try and squeeze in with Zuk people, but we're apparently travelling with a small army of 8 people, probably with 3 or 4 tents, so I doubt we'd be able to find space. Not to mention, I'm with the CarolinaK5 group, and they'd never let me live down the fact that I slept with a buncha Zukers.

OK then if motel is an option, there are plenty of good choices in Asheboro...and IIRC, Asheboro will be about 10 minutes closer to the ORV area. IHOP, too. :)

Doubtful. Like I said, there's going to be a TON of folks down there! They're usually happy to try and accomodate, but it's going to be tight, and probably uncomfortable with that many people. Plus, if it rains, it gets nasty up there. Try if you want, but don't tell 'em I sent you! ;)

Hunt Camp is first come, first serve isn't it? We won't be rolling in until probably after 7, so I assumed it'd already be full too.

I usually park my tow rig in the double parking lot lock it up it will be fine. More fun & peacefull to camp on the trails

I've parked the towrig at the Outpost a few times. Of course I asked permission, they said no problem, put it over on the side in the dirt.
