Well, we are back. After taking the long way there, and getting lost 2x....we got there about 1230.
Stopped by Eldorado and picked up a season pass and a hat for Grayson (they need to get some kids clothes in there).
Picked up a map and headed out the door....
Drove down Moccasin Crk Rd onto Dutch John....to the first trailhead we could find....Rocky Mountain Loop. Did RML with no problems other than it was slick...real slick. The last time I was there was about 2 years ago and it was dry as a bone....big difference when wet. Made the loop, jumped on Slab Pile, made that loop back to RML and back to the road. Grayson wanted a picnic by a creek so we headed to Dutch john Rd down by Haltiwanger for a lunch break about 2-ish. After lunch we jumped on Dicky Bell down there and took it across Dutch John Road and back up to the Rocky Mountain Loop taking another pass around Kodak Rock and back to the highway.
The storm started in on us as we went up Dicky Bell so it was really slick.
I saw 3 guys camped at the top of something (not sure what trail it was). 2 in WJ's and one in a Land Cruiser I think. Saw a couple of 4 wheelers and a motorcycle, but that was it all day.
All in all, it was a great day with my son. He loved it...even the sliding around sideways on the downhills.....
I didnt like being out there not seeing so many folks. I also decided I need to spend some good money on some additions to the jeep:
BTW, Im in a 4.0 TJ/Auto with 33X10.50's...on 3.07 gears.....unlocked.
Next buys....gears, locker up front and a winch.....
Thankfully, I didnt pay alot of attention to the map and difficulty levels or I wouldnt have taken the trails I did....but we took them and had a blast!
Looking forward to heading back down there soon!
