Clyde my service truck has developed some issues.

Small coolant leak, no miss fire. I can find residue on the intake, valley, head area on shut down when it cools off.

Bigger issue is it is absolutely gutless and wont pull. CAT is glowing red after 10 minutes up the road for fuel. Started all of a sudden. Idle is great, not vibration. Showing 165k and probably has high idle time due to its pto and crane.

Little smoke on cold start but none driving no steam. Not over heating.

The sensors are all up stream in the header manifold. I am think clogged convertor.

Anyone running mods?

Following for the knowledge.

If the cat is glowing red and you have a welder, I’m not sure why we’re even having a conversation about it. Gut that puppy!
Yes. Just wondering if anyone had first hand feedback on these V10 engines. Seeing the sensors upstream makes me think it would not hurt fuel trim or idle.

Hope it doesn't sound like a flat biller in a Fox Body though!

Is this supposed to say ā€œcan**not** findā€?
nope...I know it it leaking external. Can NOT confirm if any is leaking internally in the combustion chamber. No crooss contamination in oil or coolant as of yet

Clogged cat, decreasing exhaust flow, increasing combustion chamber pressure, causing mild head lift forcing coolant seepage.

Get a dog, loose the cat, problem likely solved

Unbolt the Y pipe from the manifolds and test drive. If it's better, you have an exhaust restriction. Likely the cat.
Assuming it's the cat, grab a high flow aftermarket one (I have had luck with Magnaflow brand) and weld her up
The OEM Y pipe restricts down to like 2" under the pan. While you're there, cut that small section out and weld in a new piece same as the rest (2.5")

Should have 3 cats. I’d bet one of the uppers came apart and clogged the secondary. The real cats are up by the manifold between the sensors. They are prone to leak under the intake and burn off. I’ve worked on 6.8 buses for a while. The pipe under there will leak. Have even seen a few heads get a pinhole I’m assuming to bad casting. If you cant verify the leak put some dye in the coolant.

My arrangement looks more like this picture. I will crawl back under it and take a look again. I did drop the large CAT. Replaced with through pipe. Surprised it isn't terribly louder. Didn't appear real sooted upšŸ˜•. Not much if any change in power.

Spent all evening messing with my Launch creader. It doesn't get used much and gets stupidly wonky requiring updates reboots and the darn subscription is dead again Debating on paying the man to get it back on line or going a different route to diagnose my fleet. Its a 431 pro and dang powerful when it wants to work. It is about as aggravating as having to make repairs on my junk.😭🤣🄓

Failed cat could be an effect of a primary issue. Check fuel pressure too. If it has run lean for a while, it could have melted the cat internally causing a massive restriction.

How many miles on the current spark plugs, and have you pulled any to check them? I have heard that the plugs can get bad enough to cause poor performance, without causing a misfire/code.

On the list, i did check fuel at the rail because the first darn thing upon firing the unit up after returning from my trip was it shutting down completely. It wasnt impressive, but the cause was a blown fuse. Fuse was also sized to small because someone else had jockeyed a few around at some point. The appropriate fuse was in the auxiliary power output.....bet someone had something plugged in that exceeded the circuit design and cherry picked the thirty amp belonging to the ignition circuit.

Couldn't tell you. It honestly needs a tune up in the related. I get my Creader running again im gonna pull codes before throwing parts at it. Really bummed this thing is gonna be about as aggravating as a Diesel to work under the hood.

Run a compression test. I fought low/no power on a 3v 6.8 til it finally died and wouldn’t start back up. Threw my purse at it then finally wised up and did a compression test. Two dead cylinders. Never figured out what caused it and sent the truck on its way to be someone else’s problem.

You could throw a 7.3 at it.... ;)
yes. Yes you would and ive thought about both variants. A that point I'd probably do like StretchASU said and look at rerigging my enclosed or search for a much bigger truck. I need the space.

You know I had to suggest it. I mean the godzilla has the mod transmission pattern. Saw recently where the hoursepower guys pulled 500hp from a stock motor with I think it was holly control pack.

So update.
Codes read every coil on the passenger bank dead. Also a fault code for the PCM itself.
Using inferred the manifold on that side never warms up.
Explains the red hot converter. Fuel not being used in 5 cylinders.
Each coil has 12 volts positive non interupted.
None on the passenger bank has a ground signal.

Leaning toward PCM.

Does anyone have access to a wiring diagram and pin locations for the ground signal at the PCM? I want to individually ohm and those coil circuits. VIN and build date next pic for reference.

Found some diagrams stumbling around online.
Harness checks out.
PCM pulled.
Found one about 35 minutes up the road.
Gonna plug and play and see what we got.
