So The Steering pump whent out on my 01 XJ and I got a hold of a V8 pump for free so with a custom sized belt Iv Got it working.. But My Question is that It just doesnt feel right..LIke I have to put more effort than normal, Its not that much worse but I notice It, and more noise from the pump. Is there a difference as far as compession or whatevr between the V8 and the 4.0? ANy help Appreciated.. Thanx In Advancd

there is no difference. if anything the fins in the pump are locked up or the bearing is squeeling. the only difference is the location of the return nipple on the reservior. not a biggie
i have either a zj or wj pump on my yj and it works just the same(i have he 99+intake set up)

Thats What I thought, That they where all swapable, But it being frm a V8 and the pulley was 1/2" bigger I was Unsure, and Its workn Fine, just not the same..for whatever reason, but Ill run it till it Breaks! Thanx

thats strange.. the pulley i have from my zj fit the same and had thesame pulley width???
No not width, its 1/2" bigger in circumfrence.. sp?.. around, and I didnt know if that would make a diffrence of how fast or slow it was pushing fluids..and being from a V8 I thought it might b set up for differnt compression or whatevr.. could just b a badly worn pump.. I just know that if its havn issues pushn 30's around its not going to like 33's.

ooooh i got ya. yes the diameter of mine is a bit bigger too. it will loosen up the more you drive it. the system has to bleed out the air and the bearings/fins are probably a little stiff
