vehicle inspection advice

I need to take my YJ to get it inspected.
I was wondering if anybody had any advice on the best place in Raleigh to get a fast and friendly vehicle inspection done.

Okay, I took my YJ for inspection this afternoon, so now I've got a follow-up question...

Is a cherrybomb glasspack a muffler?

The young gentleman doing my inspection, insisted that my exhaust system did not have a muffler, and that a muffler is one of the 3 required components of an exhaust system needed to pass inspection.

I pointed at my glasspack and said, that's an aftermarket muffler.

He didn't seem to have any knowledge of such a thing, and called over one of the other young gentlemen at the shop, who kindly explained to me that a muffler is intended to make an exhaust quieter, a glasspack is intended to make an exhaust louder, and that my glasspack was not an acceptable substitute for a muffler in NC.

Anybody else have any specific experience or opinions about this?
 
I am pretty sure it is classified as a muffler, it can not technically make your exhaust louder than if it nothing was in place. I am pretty sure they are sold at the local exhaust shop as after market mufflers. My granddad has had glasspacks on his suburban for 10 yrs with no problems.

Not trying to be too funny, but if you move to South Carolina, your worries will be over. No vehicle inspections!
 
I dont recall

call your local dmv ,tell them what the shop said. and ask them if your glasspack is a muffler if they say yes, and the shop fail you for it report them. the shop and the tech will be in big trouble ....
 
i'm interested in some "advice" on this subject as well if anyone cares to pm me.
 
I guess I should add that after 5 or 10 minutes of discussing what a glasspack is, the kid doing the inspection finally shook his head and said "I'll pass you, but you should really put a muffler on that thing, if you get pulled over for noise, they'll write you a big ticket"
 
was this in NC? i was under the impression that a95 or older just needed a basic safety inspection, no emissions (or eqiupment) check required. isnt your YJ an 88?
 
lol...mine are there..... just missing 3 inches of pipe between the muffler and the cat.

Also removing cats is a federal crime ….no one is going to admit publicly they will approve that. Even if they will

Truth!
I've been trying to remove my wife's cats for years and yet still here they are in my house.
