Vehicle selling question.

Ok, posted a truck for sale on craigslist for my dad. Dude came and looked at it, gave Daddy the full asking amount, said hed be back that week to get it. Cash in hand so Daddy signed over the title. This was May 16. The guy hasnt come back for the truck, and we cant get ahold of him. I posted an ad on CL pretty much saying "look, if you bought this from me or know who did, come get it." No response.

Now for the questions:

Can we just sell it with no title?
Can we get a new title for it and resell it? I dont know if the guy has been to the DMV with the title or not.
Basically short of parting it and/or scrapping it, what are our options?

if the title isnt in your name...start charging storage fees. then put a lein on the title. after a few hoops to jump through you can reclaim the title.
 
Abandoned property? Isnt there a law somewhere that if something is abandoned on your property after so long, its yours?
 
I know the guy that bought it and he wants me to come pick it up for him but i forgot what it was and where it is so if you can pm me the details that I forgot I will be there in the morning

the law is.....you call the law. they sticker it, attempt to contact the owner, then tow it.

ha, i should of read to the bottom of the thread. from what i remember, thats not exactly how the abandonement laws read, but if it works go for it!

I fail to see what our honesty has to do with this? Im honest enough to do everything in my power to get ahold of the buyer to come collect. The only thing I havnt done yet is call the DMV to see if the titles been transfered, and my cousin works at DMV so that will probably be handled in the next week. Is there something more honest I should be doing?

It doesnt run, it would take more time to get running than we want to dedicate to it, we just want it gone. If we can resell it great, if we contact the dude that bought it and he comes and gets it great, if I take it to the firehouse and flip it on its side and cut it to shreds in training great.

If we apply for lost/dup title, does that void all previous titles? Would the guy be able to come and say "hey, I bought this and heres the title saying so?"
