The wife and I are planning a VA beach trip with her parents the last weekend of July. I was wondering if any of you have been there and know of a good place to stay and what attractions we don't want to miss?

My father in law loves to fish so I'm sure we'll be doing some of that. Know any good places? We'd also like to do some diving. None of us has ever done that.

Surf fish near the Lesnar Bridge , theres a lot of current and fish so dont go past knee deep .

Go to 64th Street and drive through First Landing State park . This is a great place to watch the sunset as you are facing west when you get to the back . Theres good fishing and wading here too , but be aware of the current . If its not too hot the trails are nice , but they tend to be buggy in the summer .

Spend a little extra and get the butterflied shrimp at Chix Beach , which is across from Lesnar Bridge . The restauraunt is mostly over the water and they have a nice dock/deck too .

You can drive across the Bay Bridge tunnel and back for $12 . Sounds like a lot until you do it . 17 miles each way of incredible views and theres a spot to fish at on the 1st island . Never fished there , but I have seen them pulling up some nice ones when I ate there .

South of the strip is the VA Marine Science Museum . Plan on spending a half a day there and its reasonable . At the Lynnhaven Inlet there is a few dolphin tours , that I have sent relatives too and they loved it .

As to the diving , I dont know of any get certified quick places . Most of the diving is offshore and I never tried it . Lynnhaven dive center is the biggest of the dive places I know of so you might give them a call .

For your stay the cabins in First Landing are awesome and reasonable (for the beach ) but they are hard to get into . Any of the hotels on the oceanfront will be nice , but they are all expensive .

At night try the block if you dont mind a cab fare , or Hot Tuna on the North end .

If you have any other specific questions pm me your # and I will call you . I lived in Va Beach for 7 long long years .

Wow thanks man! That is exactly what I was wanting to know. I'll check on the cabins and see if I can put together an agenda from your suggestions.

Hide your Radar Detector.

Busch Gardens and its Water Park is close to Va. Beach

The Hampton Roads Mariners Museum used to be a cool place

Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown are also close by

There is an aquarium in Norfolk

Hampton Roads has an old military fort and I think it's where parts of the Monitor are displayed.

Pretty sure there isnt an aquarium in Norfolk , but the one in Va Beach is nice .

Mariners museum is awesome if your even remotely interested in boats .

Busch Gardens and Williamsburg is 45 minutes , if the traffic is moving well .

The Monitor is at the Mariners Museum .

The fort your talking about is most likely Fort Monroe and it is pretty cool . You do have to go through a security check to get on the base .

I was thinking of Nauticus - I had to look it up to see what the heck I was thinking about when I said aquarium - it's down near the Norfolk Naval Shipyard - along the waterfront. I've never been to it.

seashore state park is nice.

and there is another place to take the kids - although they changed the name since I've lived there... its on General booth blvd near the SMR. Now its called the VA aquarium and marine science center.
WHich is right next to ocean breezes water park which now has some gocarts and stuff.
much nicer than myrtle's water parks imo.
