If you currently had a late 90's TBI 5.7, and you had access to some Vortec heads, would it be possible (and worth the trouble) to bolt them up and run them without freaking out the computer???? I have heard everything from "NO", to "yeah, just drill the manifold bolts out so they line up". Will I notice a difference in torque / hp / mph etc?

you say late 90s, 96-> all "Vortec" from factory.

Easy to tell look at "intakes bolts" see if they are flat (i.e perpindicular (sp?) to cam/crankshaft) or angled into head

Yes it is doable. Edelbrock makes intakes for Carb and TBI (debate as to whether or not this is still in production) adaptation. If not I have also seen an adapter to bolt a TBI to the carb intake.

The question really is, how much is the gain worth to ya?

You will have ~ $200-250 in the intake and gaskets (vortec head gaskets are gonna run ~$40) for some noticeable improvement.

I would wager the same amount spent on your current heads would yield more though.
