I just installed a new M8000 today and it won't spool out. It pulls in no problem and it will free spool out, just not with the controller. The control box does click when trying to spool out, but that's it. Any simple solutions before I call Warn on Monday?

Bad solenoids. It takes two solenoids to power out, two to power in. The power in ones are working, but at least one of the power out ones are not.

You can troubleshoot them with a test light and/or a meter to see which one is bad. Or you can replace the whole set of solenoids with a solid state contactor.

Could be several things
Like Shawn said, solenoids
could be wired wrong, just in case, check it
Could be the controller
Check plug in from controller to solenoid box, make sure no pins missing pushed in, and on box, make sure pins are going into something other than plastic
some other things could be wrong but I'd start there

I seem to remember some info about it being bad to power out the line because it has to overcome the brake. Is that right?

Not necessarily bad, but it works the motor hard and generates a lot of heat. That's why a lot of those don't recommend using synthetic line.

Part #s, suppliers, etc... pweaze?

I used this on my 8274:

trailhugger's new 8274 didn't come with a remote, and in-cab switches are a no-no with kids, so I went ahead and bought a matching set:

Amazon.com: WARN 83665 Truck Winch Control: Automotive

A bit more expensive that way, but hers needed all new power cables, including the motor leads. When I did the same thing on mine, I probably had another $30-40 in cables after I bought the contactor. The only thing I have yet to do is make a bracket to hold the Warn contactor. The one I got is for a 9.5XP, and it's intended to mount to the spool bolts. There isn't a similar means of attachment on the 8274.

I have been told that the Warn contactor is better/safer than the Superwinch version, because it has a set of contacts to energize the pack, then a second set to select direction, but the Superwinch version just selects direction and goes. Whether or not that's true I have no idea.

Other folks may have decent luck with solenoids, but I think they suck. Based on Warn's recent offerings, it looks like they might agree.

I got a wireless remote at tractor surprise for $20 plus tax. Works good up to about 75 ft. No directions with it though.. Not hard to figure out.
