Before I tell what happened, I am not one of those people who hates cops or anything like that. I have many friends on various police forces all the way up to a cousin who was with the Secret Service...

With that said...sat night my parents and sister were out to supper uptown and after leaving the restaraunt were driving down one of the streets. Cops were everywhere going to an apparent fight that another officer was in....My dad changed lanes after all the police went through and one came out of no where and almost hit him without his sirens on. Many of you may remember the girl that got killed by the cop in charlotte without his lights or sirens on....So he pulled my dad over came up took his drivers license went back to his car for about 10 mins then came back up and started asking my dad about his concealed carry permit, drivers license, if he had been drinking and anything else he could come up with. My dad told him that he did not have his sirens on and my dad apologized for not seeing him come up like that. The cop said he did have all his sirens on etc and that it was his job to make sure he gave tickets to law breakers....He tried to search the car for any weapons, my dad was not carrying, and told him he didn't need to look in the car etc. The cop said ok went back to his car and came back with a ticket for unsafe movement and told him that he should write him a ticket for hindering the police since he was on his way to a fight call. My dad wadded up the ticket threw it in the glove box, cussed him out and proceeded to leave since the cop was getting very upset and cussing him out as well....

I know the economy is bad and Charlotte is way over budget but damn is that the best he could come up with and not to mention all that when he was "supposed" to be responding to backup another officer.......

Just my Monday rant I guess....

This one is EASY. Here's he deal; it's illegal for an officer to run a siren without having his warning lights on too. I've wired a ton of police car cameras, and they all turn on automatically as soon as the lights come on. If the officer is saying that he was already running lights and siren then the video will clearly show that. Simply put, that is a really stupid thing for the officer to lie about because it is really easy to prove one way or the other.

No offense to cops out there but they are all overzealous and beleive they are above the law. I guess power tripping is normal in law enforcement. Cops fight harder when they are wrong too so good luck in court. I would fight that tooth and nail though!

Obviously something happened to ruffle the guy's feathers...
I know you said no sirens, did he have lights on?

And all people from lake wylie are silver spoon fed pretentious pricks....see how bad generalizations are

if he was worried about getting to the fight he would have never stopped. a cop fight is like throwing a ham in a pack of wild hiennas, every cop within 5 miles responds to get in on the beating. He knew he was just going to the fight to waste time and our $$$. He just happen to come upon your father and saw an opportunity..

Crap like that pisses me off. Even if its hear-say, the judge will always believe the cop no matter what and we end up getting screwed.

Im glad no one thinks my rant was off base.....To answer the question...He had the lights on but no siren and was going so fast through the street that he rounded the curve or came over the hill and locked up the brakes (probably important info I left out) to keep from hitting my dad who was probably going 35 or so....

None the less, I have a trooper buddy of mine talking to the DA and any other people he knows so we will see what happens....And yes I feel like the judge/dept will most always stand behind their officer except in extreme cases.

"Watch out for Police."

^^^ Should be your title. Just about any time you deal with them, you're getting screwed. I AM NOT saying all cops are dirty, bad, or anything else, but you can't fight them, much less beat them. The system isn't on their side, THEY ARE the system.

The less one has to deal with them professionally, the better. Personally, I know and am friends with several cops, I still wouldn't want to be in a dispute of any type of legal nature with them.

I figured you were embellishing... now I'm certain.

Ever heard of anti-lock brakes? :shaking: I'm pretty certain that's one item that they would not allow the car to roll without being operational.

Let me clarify for you then....Brakes probably didn't completely lock up but did some pretty good chirping before stopping.....

What would you prefer him to say? "Would have locked-up the brakes if it wasn't for his super technological anti'lock braking system." ??

You knew what he was saying, as did the rest of us, and it certainly wasn't that the cop laid two black streaks on the road to avoid hitting his dad.

We all know cops sometimes let their emotions get in the way of their jobs at times. It's nothing they can help, it's human nature. They get all hyped up on some other call, and let their anger/stress out on the next person they encounter on "the wrong side of the law," no matter how petty the infraction may be.

Coming straight from the under ground?

My temper has been very short lately. If it would have been me I would have told him where to put that ticket...same place I told the manager at the verizon place in Hickory a few days ago. I appreciate that cops keep us same or blah blah you know but actions like that are what give cops a bad rep.

I think a lot of the hate towards LEO's is the lack of punishment for their own when one of them screws up (AKA the miniature dog shootings/the surry co incident/the EMT vs cop, ect...)

Every organization has its bad apples, but when those bad apples are continued to let run free, or without any public notice of the disciplinary actions layed down, their is very little trust towards LE. And every one of these stories adds to that ill will.

A lot of "bad apples" are quietly let go from one agency that is tired of putting up and covering for them. Then the "bad apple" with a nice clean record is hired by another agency that does not know the "bad apple's" true work record. They have a term for this, it is "Gypsy Cop" and NC has more than their share of them.

well the downfall is it sucks that happened to your dad.. and since I was not there I can not say one way or the other who was right or wrong.

But the Police have the same issues anyone has.. bad cops/bad press travels twice as fast as good cops/good press.

I personally have freinds that work or RPD, Wake County, Chapel Hill, NC State, SBI, etc.. Every single one of them tells me stories about how rude/disrespectful people are when pulled over, etc.. I hear stories about how they found and caught a person that was on most wanted lists, dead beat dads, thieves, etc.. Yet we as a community do not praise them for the work they have done. we only slander them for the bad things that happen due to a few bad cops that make others look bad..

Here is a great example.. we bust our asses at Uwharrie to make sure the trails stays clean and open, yet everytime our club has a clean up day on our adopted trail we can fill many trash bags full of junk.. so does that say all 4 wheelers are bad and disrespectful? NO, but there are a few and we the better of the group have to clean up after them and then try to make the public think we are good folks that wheel responsible, etc..

Sorry it is long winded but I hate how people jump onthe band wagon about cops, etc.

I bet if most of us sat back and really looked at our lifes we would realize how good we have it compared to millions out there..

You actually expect great things out of all the individuals w/ only high school diploma and a few month long BLET course? Then you give them the power of a badge and gun coupled with "gang" mentality of protecting their own and high speed driving. Then they become unionized and really give it 110% right.

I think the problem is with the expectations that we have of them as a group. Set the bar lower and you wont be disapointed as often.

What in the hell does education level have to do with the expectation of performing their job in an objective, professional manner?

Kill em with kindness. I've found when I escalate my voice etc with them it gets ugly. If you are overly nice to them they tend to be alot more helpful. Being calm is the key. Let a lawyer take care of it........it sucks but so goes life. Not every cop is good but not every one is bad.

You arent exactly pulling applicants from the cream of the crop are you? Especially with the salaries involved. i dont expect that much out of police officers because I feel that i am responsible for the safety of my family as best I can.

X2... As one of my cop friends said, "People don't exactly call 911, just to let us know they are having a good day."
