I have recently installed a Weber 32/36 Carb; it is hard to start initially and does not have the "pep" I expected. Does anyone know of an experienced Weber Carb Tuning-Guy?

profile says - 1986 Jeep, CJ-7 so im guessing a 4.2

are you attempting to tune it your self ? or drop off service ?

for self tuning, we'll need some more info to help you out...

but some things id check first..
1) Base Timing, needs to be set right..
2) Advance make sure your getting enough advance that will cause poor performance with any carb.
3) check for other issues, cap/rotor plugs wires etc..

for those reading along - 32/26 is a progressive 2 bbl. 1 bbl is normal and the other is the secondary, almost like a 4bbl cut in half sideways vs the normal across....

so its relitivly easy to do some base adjustments... slap a vac guage on the engine and adjust the carb so you pull the most vacume at idle..

start with that and then report back with the following..

is it rich at idle?
pep, as in acceleration ? black/blue smoke when accelerating ?
does it boog then pick up ?

If you got it in a kit, follow the instructions METICULOUSLY .
It's not as hard as you think. Then set your timing.....factory timing would be fine to start.
Now...go back and do the lean best procedure.
1-turn idle mix in until it stumbles.
2-turn idle mix out until it just starts to run better/smooth.
3-turn idle mix out until it stumbles/runs ruff, BUT count the turns....best to go 1/2 or 1/4 turns.
4-Now turn idle mix in half as many as you came out til it stumbles.

Set the idle. Check timing again. Webers are very sensitive to timing...on zooks anyway :)

This should put you w/ 1/8 or 1/4 turn of being right. If you replaced a bad carb....my bet would be timing is off.
