just bought a cucv 60/14 set and the front is welded. Im on a limited budget and was wondering if yall thought its worth me putting in a lockright, or using the money to put in 35 spline outters. will i be able to tell a huge difference between the two w/hydro assist?
Its a yj with 350/350/205 and will have 42in. tires. I also plan on doing hydro assist on the front. It will maybe be driven 10 miles a week on the street, and be trailered everywhere else.

Thanks

42's? You better put the 35 spline outers in pronto... When the 30's break, I've seem them often take out more than just the stub.

But, a locker will always get the rig turned better than a welded diff. But IMO, your cash is better spent on the 35 outers right now.

My vote is to go lock rite. If you aren't too hard on the 30 splines they will stay alive with 42's and a lock rite. Welded front IMO is asking for breakage. Not to mention with a lock rite you will be able to steer. Even with the hydro assist, it won't steer all that well.

X2

A buddy broke 1 30 spline stub with 38's and 1 with 39.5's. The second one that broke messed up the spindle and destroyed the lock out.

Both of us are running welded front ends.

Being welded probably had more to do with breaking than the tire size. I run 39.5 boggers, a Detroit, and 30 spline outers. So far no breaks. But I carry spares.
